Copyright: The Entrants will retain the copyright of the work, but grant the Organizer the rights to use their photography.
The Organizer has the rights to use the submitted photographs, without compensation, for photo collections, printed material, advertisements, websites, and other purposes.
Eligibility: The contest is open to amateur photographers of any age, sex, or nationality. Entrants under 20 years old must receive permission from their legal guardians to enter.

Ocean in Focus, Conservation Photo Contest

We challenge you to enter your most engaging environmental photos that illustrate the pressing marine issues and the solutions that aim to reverse the rapid decline of our ocean’s health. Beautiful wildlife imagery is abundant and often implies that our oceans are healthy. This contest is a unique opportunity for you to illuminate the challenges our ocean faces. Photo entries may depict environmental issues including, but not limited to: unsustainable fishing practices, pollution and debris, ocean dumping, oil spills, global warming and climate change, the effects of sea level rise, coastal development, endangered and threatened ecosystems.

Preview: Nikon Photo Contest International 2008-2009

The Nikon Photo Contest International has been held by Nikon Corporation since 1969 to provide an opportunity for photographers around the world to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike.
Eligibility: professionals and amateurs
Entry deadline: Entries are accepted from September 1st, 2008 to Sunday, November 30th, 2008.

This year's theme: "At the heart of the image"
"At the heart of the image" is not only the brand statement of Nikon Imaging Company, but it is also the theme of the 32nd contest. We have carefully selected categories as stated below and we look forward to receiving images expressing the emotions that are true to your heart.

All works will be judged by professional photographers working internationally and a combined total of 54 prizes will be awarded. The Grand Prize will be awarded for the most outstanding photograph out of all the entries, regardless of category. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded to 16 winners in each category. The Emerging Talent award will recognize 4 winners and 16 runners-up from both categories to commend those aged under 30 for work that possess outstanding expressive power and conveys the energy of youth. Additionally, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the NIKKOR brand of lenses. To properly commemorate this event, a special prize will be awarded to the outstanding work that places second after the Grand Prize winner.

Prize winners are planned to be announced in July 2009.

Nature Conservancy 2008 Photo Contest.

The Nature Conservancy invites photographers to enter its 2008 Photography Competition.We're looking for beautiful nature photography representing the diversity of life on Earth. Your own original digital images of our lands, waters, plants, animals and people in nature are all eligible for the competition.

We are especially interested in images that showcase the wide range of habitats across our planet, including all types of forests, grasslands, lakes and rivers, deserts and arid lands, rainforests, marine habitats and coral reefs.
Copyright: By entering the contest, you hereby grant to The Nature Conservancy a nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display and publicly perform the photographs you submit to The Nature Conservancy.
Eligibility: All participants age 18 and older.
Entry deadline: October 15, 2008.

Please do not include photographs of pets or domestic animals. Images of captive animals photographed in zoos and commercial game farms are also prohibited, however photos from state and national wildlife preserves are allowed. If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to The Nature Conservancy upon request. Entrants must not submit images that involve the willful harassment of wildlife, damage to the environment by the photographer, or infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.

All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. Multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single "High Dynamic Range" image are acceptable.

Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should included the subject of the image, the location the image was taken, and the name of the photographer(s). Please clearly label animals as wild in digital caption information to assist judges in determining eligibility.

All photographs will be credited with the caption "© Person's Name." The Nature Conservancy has final approval of any language that appears on its website with any of the photos and will not promote or endorse third-party products or services.

The Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Association, created to promote the work of Pierre & Alexandra Boulat and encourage the work of photojournalists has created an award, supported by a CANON endownment of 8000 euros which will be given to a photo-journalist.

Potato Photo Contest

The IYP World Photography Contest, Focus on a global food, supports two key objectives of the International Year of the Potato: to increase awareness of the importance of potato as a food in developing nations, and to promote research and development of potato-based systems as a means of contributing to achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Copyright: By entering the International Year of the Potato 2008 World Photography Contest, Focus on a global food, the photographer gives permission to FAO to use the material submitted to the contest in eventual exhibitions resulting from the contest and in all promotional material relating to the International Year of the Potato. FAO hereby reserves the non-exclusive right to publish the entries of category winners and of short listed nominees in brochures or materials directly related to the International Year of the Potato 2008 for a period of no more than 12 months from the date of the announcement of the winners without any remuneration being due to the photographer.
Eligibility: All entrants must be over 18 years of age.

The contest is an invitation to reflect on the potato's key role in agriculture, the economy and world food security, to offer new insights into potato biodiversity, cultivation, processing, trade, marketing and consumption, and to contribute to a free and international exchange of information on this globally important food crop.

The following is a brief outline of the photography contest. Be sure to print and read carefully the contest rules before submitting entries. Entries close on 1 September 2008.

1. Categories: Professional and amateur
The contest is divided into two categories: Professional photographers (people who make their living from photography) and Amateur photographers. All entrants must be over 18 years of age.

2. Entries: JPEG images
Photographs must be submitted as digital files in JPEG format. Each entrant may submit either a single JPEG image or a "photo story" of from 4 to 8 related JPEG images. Images must be 300 dpi resolution, and 20 cm x 30 cm. They may be taken with a digital camera, or may be scans in JPEG format of negatives, transparencies or prints.
